Legal
Privacy policy
The German version is binding.
Here you'll find out what personal data we process when you use TENTEN, for what purpose and on what legal basis – and what rights you have. When we talk about TENTEN here, we mean all TENTEN websites and tools – currently the website and the TENTEN Toolkit.
At a glance
- No tracking: no analytics or marketing services, no advertising, no cookies of our own.
- Our own servers: TENTEN and our email run in our own data centre in Austria, without external hosting providers.
- Your settings stay with you: only your browser stores appearance, readability and language.
- Google only for maps: the contact page and the Toolkit's location tools load maps from Google – immediately on opening.
- Messages only by email: what you write to us via a form reaches us as an email and isn't stored on the website.
- WhatsApp only on click: the WhatsApp tile is a link – only when you use it is WhatsApp (Meta) involved.
- Your rights: a message to privacy@tenten.at is all it takes.

Hosting
TENTEN runs on our own servers in our own data centre in Austria. We don't use an external hosting provider for this; the data that arises technically when a page is accessed (see Server logs) doesn't leave our systems.
Server logs
When you access a page, your browser transmits technically necessary information. In doing so, the server processes your IP address, date and time, the address accessed, status code, amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer), and browser and operating system.
We need this information to deliver the website, to ensure its operation and security, and to detect errors or attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The logs contain the full IP address so that we can trace and fend off attacks. They are deleted automatically after 14 days. They are kept longer only if a specific security incident needs to be investigated, and only until it has been resolved.
Google maps
On TENTEN's contact page, we show our location using Google Maps (Maps Embed API). In the TENTEN Toolkit, the tools for location and event codes use the map (Maps Embed API) and Google's address search (Maps JavaScript API with Places API). The provider for users in the European Economic Area is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
The map is loaded immediately on opening the contact page or the location tool, without prior consent. The address search in the Toolkit is loaded as soon as you enter a search term. Your browser connects directly to Google in the process. In particular, Google receives your IP address, browser and device information, the page accessed, the identifier of our Google project and, in the Toolkit, your search terms and the selected place. Google may also store or read cookies or similar information on your device. We have no influence over this and do not receive this data.
We embed the map so that you can find us easily and conveniently select places in the Toolkit. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Google may also process data in the USA. This is covered by the European Commission's adequacy decision on the EU‑US Data Privacy Framework, under which Google LLC is certified. More on this in Google's privacy policy and the Google Maps Additional Terms of Service.
We store neither search terms nor results from Google on our servers. In the Toolkit, a draft in progress may remain temporarily in your browser's session storage so that it's preserved after reloading.
Forms and sending
You can write to us via the contact form, the fault report and “Make a Wish”. In doing so, we process what you enter:
- Contact form: your request, your message, name and email address, optionally company and phone number, and how we should reply (by email or callback – in which case the phone number is required).
- Fault report: which service is affected, since when and how urgently, your description, name, email address and a callback number.
- Make a Wish: topic, your message and – optionally – name and email address, and whether you'd like a reply. In the Toolkit, you can also send technical information (version, language, view and, if you wish, browser, operating system, device type, screen size and touch input). You see each of these details before sending and can deselect them individually.
How your message reaches us: currently, the form prepares a message that you open or copy in your email program. There, you decide yourself whether to send it; sending is subject to the terms of your email provider. Depending on the form and request, it goes to:
- Project or quote, consultation, switching to TENTEN: sales@tenten.at
- Existing solution and fault report: support@tenten.at
- Invoice or contract: accounting@tenten.at
- Legal questions: legal‑department@tenten.at
- Data protection: privacy@tenten.at
- Job application: Human‑Resource@tenten.at
- Collaboration or partnership, press and media, everything else: info@tenten.at
- Make a Wish: maw@tenten.at, in the Toolkit maw.tools@tenten.at
Messages arrive in our own email mailbox on our servers in the data centre in Austria; we don't use an external email provider.
We use your details only to handle your request and to reply to you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract or steps prior to entering into one are concerned – such as a quote or a fault in a service you receive from us – and otherwise our legitimate interest in replying under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete your message as soon as your request has been dealt with or answered, but no later than six months afterwards. We keep it longer only if statutory retention obligations require this (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR, for example under commercial or tax law if the enquiry leads to an order).
Instead of using a form, you can also email us directly or give us a call.
Job applications
If you choose “Job application” in the contact form, your message goes to our HR team. You attach your CV and other documents yourself in your email program. We process your details and documents only for the application procedure; the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into an employment relationship). Please send us only what is necessary for the application.
If you are not hired, we delete your application seven months after the procedure has ended – we need it for that long to be able to defend ourselves against possible claims under the Austrian Equal Treatment Act (Gleichbehandlungsgesetz) (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep it longer only if you expressly agree that we may consider you for future positions. If you are hired, your documents go into your personnel file.
On the contact page and the support page you can also write to us via WhatsApp (+43 676 / 8 404 57 701). The tile is a simple link: as long as you don't click, nothing is transmitted to WhatsApp. Only when you click does WhatsApp open in your browser or in the app.
For users in Europe, WhatsApp is provided by WhatsApp Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland, a Meta company. Its terms and privacy policy apply to your use. In the process, WhatsApp processes, among other things, your phone number, your profile name and your profile picture, as well as details such as time and device; the content of messages is end‑to‑end encrypted. Meta may also process data in the USA; the European Commission's adequacy decision on the EU‑US Data Privacy Framework applies to this.
We use the WhatsApp Business app on a company device. It has no access to an address book, so no phone numbers of other people are transmitted to WhatsApp. We see what you send us – message, photos, phone number and profile name – and use it only to handle your request. As with the forms, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, and otherwise our legitimate interest in replying under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the chat as soon as your request has been dealt with or answered, but no later than six months afterwards, unless statutory retention obligations require longer.
Please don't send us passwords or particularly sensitive data via WhatsApp, and with photos and screenshots make sure that no other people's data can be seen. If you'd rather not use WhatsApp, you can reach us just as well by email, phone or form.
Local storage without tracking
So that your settings are still there on your next visit, we store them in your browser's storage (local storage, and session storage for individual processes). These entries stay on your device, are not transmitted to us and are not used to recognise or track you.
On the website, these are:
- Appearance (Auto, Light or Dark):
tenten‑web‑theme‑v1 - Follow sun times – on/off and approximate location (see Location sharing for sun times):
tenten‑web‑solar‑theme‑v1 - Readability (larger text, more contrast, reduce motion):
tenten‑web‑a11y‑v1 - Selected language:
tenten‑web‑lang‑v1 - Language suggestion already shown:
tenten‑web‑lang‑hint‑v1 - News already seen (for the notification dot in the menu):
tenten‑web‑news‑seen‑v1 - Jump to the home page logo, only until the tab is closed (session storage):
tenten‑web‑intro‑jump
The TENTEN Toolkit also stores favourites, recently used tools, templates, print jobs, calibrations and – only if you expressly save them there – address profiles. Drafts in progress stay in session storage until the tab is closed. You can delete all local data at any time via the cog in the Toolkit.
The legal basis is § 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021 (TKG 2021): the entries are necessary so that the website can offer the settings you choose. The website creates two entries without a choice of your own – that the language suggestion has already been shown to you and which news item you've already seen – so that the same notices don't appear again on every visit. They contain only this information and nothing about you. On the website, you delete the entries via your browser settings (“Clear site data”).
Location sharing for sun times
In the settings, you can choose the “Follow sun times” appearance: light from sunrise, dark from sunset. For this, the website needs your approximate location. It only asks for it once you turn on the switch, and your browser asks for your permission first.
We round the coordinates to two decimal places (about one kilometre) and store them only in your browser's local storage. The sun times are calculated on your device. The location is transmitted neither to us nor to third parties. How your browser or operating system determines your location is up to their providers and their settings.
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you give by sharing your location. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off the switch; the stored location is deleted immediately. You revoke the location permission itself in your browser settings.
Cookies
How TENTEN handles cookies is set out on a separate page: Use of cookies.
Tools in the browser
The tools in the TENTEN Toolkit – for example for passwords, QR codes, barcodes and labels – work directly in your browser. What you enter, and generated files such as PDFs, are not transmitted to us for this. The exception is Google's maps and address search (see Google maps).
Recipients and transfers to third countries
We run hosting and email ourselves, so there are no external recipients for these. Only Google receives data, when a map or the address search is loaded (see Google maps), and WhatsApp (Meta), when you write to us there (see WhatsApp). We don't sell data and don't pass it on for advertising.
A transfer outside the European Economic Area is only possible via Google and – if you use WhatsApp – Meta (USA); it is based on the European Commission's adequacy decision on the EU‑US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR).
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, insofar as the legal requirements are met. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. A message to privacy@tenten.at is all it takes.
You can also lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde): Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at, dsb.gv.at.
Obligation to provide data, automated decisions
TENTEN doesn't require registration. The technical information transmitted when a page is accessed is necessary so that the pages can be delivered. In the forms, mandatory fields are marked – without them, we cannot handle your request or reply to you; everything else is optional. No automated decision‑making or profiling takes place.
Security and changes
The connection to TENTEN is encrypted (HTTPS). We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss and unauthorised access. If features, services or the legal situation change, we will adapt this privacy policy; the version published here applies.
